Terms of Use
Last updated: October 1, 2026.
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Home Network Grid, the website at homenetworkgrid.com, including its guides, troubleshooting walkthroughs, comparisons, reviews, roundups, images, site search and related pages. In these Terms, “Home Network Grid,” “we,” “us” and “our” mean the operator of the site. When these Terms limit liability or provide other protections for Home Network Grid, those protections also extend, to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, to the site’s owners, operators, editors, writers and other contributors, who are referred to together as the “Site Parties.” “You” means any person who visits, reads, searches or otherwise uses the site. Please read these Terms together with our Privacy Policy and our Disclosure.
Acceptance of These Terms
By accessing or using Home Network Grid, you agree to these Terms as they appear on this page at the time you use the site. If you do not agree with these Terms, please do not use the site. These Terms apply whether you arrive from a search engine, a shared link, a bookmark or any other route, and whether you read one page or many. Our Privacy Policy explains what information is and isn’t processed when you visit, and our Disclosure explains how the site is funded, how our reviews are researched and how commercial relationships would be handled. Those pages are referenced throughout these Terms, and you should read them as part of understanding how the site works. You should use the site only if you are able to form a binding agreement where you live, or with the involvement of a parent or guardian who accepts these Terms on your behalf. The site is written for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13.
What Home Network Grid Provides
Home Network Grid publishes informational content about home networking for households, remote workers and technology enthusiasts in the United States. Our coverage areas include routers and Wi-Fi, home internet service and ISP equipment, wired networking, network security and home labs. New readers can begin with the Start Here page, and the About page explains who is behind the site and how its editorial voice works. The site is new, so some sections may not yet contain published articles, and coverage will grow and change over time. The site is provided free of charge, and you don’t need an account to read it. Site search runs inside your browser using a static search index file, so search results depend on what was included in that file when the site was last published. The site’s editorial voice belongs to Jonah Reyes, a fictional editorial persona with a generated portrait, as disclosed on the About page. The persona is a way of presenting the site’s content, not a real individual with credentials, employment history or industry ties, and nothing about the persona means that a product was personally used or tested. We may add, change, reorganize, correct or remove content, features, sections and pages at any time and without notice. We don’t promise that the site, any page or any feature will be available at any particular time, will remain available, or will operate without interruption, delay or error. The site is served through third-party infrastructure, including Cloudflare, and its availability depends on that infrastructure, on the internet generally and on other factors outside our control.
Acceptable Use
You may read, search and share links to the site for your own personal and informational purposes, and you may use what you learn in your own work, as long as you follow these Terms. You agree not to use the site in any way that is unlawful, harmful or that interferes with other people’s ability to use it. In particular, you agree not to attempt to gain unauthorized access to the site, its hosting or publishing infrastructure, its source code repository or any related system or account. You agree not to probe, scan or test the vulnerability of the site or its infrastructure, and not to bypass or interfere with security, rate-limiting or bot-protection measures, including protections operated by Cloudflare. You agree not to send traffic or automated requests in a volume or manner that is designed to, or is likely to, overload, disrupt or degrade the site. You agree not to introduce malware, malicious code or harmful files, and not to send spam, malicious attachments or abusive messages to any address associated with the site. You agree not to systematically copy, scrape, mirror or extract site content in order to republish it, to create a competing collection or to present it as your own, except to the extent applicable law expressly allows. You agree not to frame the site, imitate its design, or use its name, logo or editorial persona in a way that suggests that Home Network Grid endorses you, is affiliated with you or is responsible for your content. You agree not to impersonate Home Network Grid, Jonah Reyes or anyone connected with the site. You agree not to use anything you learn on the site to access, scan, test, monitor, disrupt or change any network, device, account or service that you do not own or are not authorized to administer. Unauthorized access to computer systems and networks can be a crime and can expose you to civil claims, and nothing on the site gives anyone permission to do it. Ordinary search engine indexing, accessibility tools, standard browser features and reasonable personal archiving are not prohibited by this section.
Intellectual Property and Permitted Reuse
The text, page designs, graphics, illustrations, logos, brand assets and other materials on the site belong to Home Network Grid or its licensors and are protected to the extent provided by copyright, trademark and other applicable laws. Images on the site are generated with artificial intelligence through the Fal service for illustration purposes. They are not photographs of real products, real installations or real testing, and you should not rely on them as an accurate depiction of any specific device, port layout, cable, label, status light or setting. Product names, company names, service names and trademarks mentioned on the site belong to their respective owners. Their use on the site is for identification and description only, and it does not mean that any owner endorses, sponsors or is affiliated with Home Network Grid. You are welcome to link to any public page on the site. You may quote short excerpts of our text for commentary, criticism, news reporting, teaching or similar purposes, as long as you give clear attribution to Home Network Grid, link back to the original page and otherwise use the excerpt lawfully. You may print or save a copy of a page for your own personal reference. Unless you have our written permission or your use is otherwise allowed by law, you may not republish full articles or substantial portions of them, reproduce our images, sell or license our content, create derivative works that substitute for our content, or remove any copyright, trademark or attribution notice. Nothing in these Terms limits any right you have under fair use or any other exception or limitation that applicable copyright law provides. If you believe that material on the site infringes your copyright or other rights, you can send a notice to hello@homenetworkgrid.com. A useful notice identifies the work you believe is infringed, the page where the material appears, your contact information, and the basis for your claim. Home Network Grid has not designated a copyright agent with the United States Copyright Office. Email receiving for the address above has not yet been set up and verified, so we can’t confirm that a notice sent there today will be received, and we can’t promise any particular response or timeline. Because the site has no comments, uploads or other public user-content features, any infringement concern would relate to material published by the site itself.
No Accounts or Public User Content
Home Network Grid does not offer user accounts, comments, forums, reader reviews, uploads, a newsletter or any other feature that lets readers post content on the site. That means you cannot publish content on the site, and these Terms do not grant you any posting privileges. The contact form on the Contact page is currently turned off, so the site does not accept form submissions. If you choose to send an email to the site’s public address, please do not include passwords, Wi-Fi keys, public IP addresses, account numbers or other private or sensitive details. Unless we separately agree otherwise in writing, any question, suggestion, correction, idea or other feedback you send is non-confidential. To the extent permitted by law, you grant Home Network Grid a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual and irrevocable permission to use, adapt and act on that feedback, including by correcting or improving content, without any obligation to pay or credit you. Sending a message does not create any obligation for us to read it, reply, publish anything, make a correction, or cover a particular product or topic. You are responsible for making sure that anything you send is lawful and that you have the right to send it.
Disclaimer of Warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the site and all content, features and materials on it are provided “as is” and “as available,” with all faults and without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Home Network Grid and the other Site Parties disclaim all implied warranties, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, accuracy and quiet enjoyment, and any warranties arising from a course of dealing or usage of trade. We do not warrant that the content is accurate, complete, current or suitable for your equipment, internet service, building, budget or skill level. We do not warrant that any router, modem, gateway, mesh system, switch, access point, cable, adapter, network-attached storage device, server, software or service discussed on the site will perform as described, will be compatible with your internet provider or other equipment, or will solve a particular problem. We do not warrant that any configuration step, setting, firmware version, security measure or troubleshooting approach discussed on the site will work in your situation or will be safe for your network. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or free of errors, viruses or other harmful components, or that defects will be corrected. Specifications, compatibility lists, provider policies, prices, firmware features and security advisories change frequently, and any information on the site may be out of date when you read it. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain implied warranties, or limit how long an implied warranty lasts. If the law that applies to you does not allow a disclaimer in this section, that disclaimer applies only to the extent the law allows, and any warranty that cannot be excluded is limited to the minimum scope and duration the law permits. Nothing in this section excludes or limits any warranty, guarantee or right that cannot legally be excluded or limited.
Not Professional Advice
Content on Home Network Grid is general information for educational purposes. It is not professional network engineering, IT support, cybersecurity, electrical, construction, legal, financial or insurance advice, and it is not a substitute for advice from a qualified professional who can assess your specific equipment, building, provider contract and needs. Using the site, reading an article or sending a message to the site’s address does not create any professional, consulting, fiduciary or client relationship. Our reviews, comparisons and roundups are research-based, drawing on sources such as manufacturer specifications and manuals, firmware and release notes, published standards, internet provider equipment requirements, recall and security advisories, and patterns in owner reports. They are not lab tests, hands-on testing or measurements, as explained in our Disclosure. Jonah Reyes is a fictional editorial persona and holds no professional licenses, certifications or credentials, so the persona’s voice should never be treated as the judgment of a licensed electrician, certified network engineer or security professional. For situations involving mains power, electrical panels, new circuits or outlets, hire a licensed electrician. For structured cabling inside walls, ceilings, attics or between buildings, consider a qualified low-voltage or cabling contractor, and check whether permits or inspections are required where you live. For business networks, sensitive data, regulated environments or a suspected security incident, consult a qualified IT or security professional. For questions about your internet service, equipment rentals, compatible devices, service terms or billing, contact your internet provider directly, because only the provider can confirm what applies to your account. For questions about warranties, firmware, safety instructions or product defects, consult the manufacturer’s documentation and support channels.
Safety, Security and Equipment Risks
Home networking projects carry real risks, and you are responsible for deciding whether, when and how to undertake any project described on the site. Changing router, firewall, VPN, DNS, port-forwarding, remote-access or similar settings can expose devices and data to the internet, lock you out of your equipment, interrupt service for everyone in your household and create security weaknesses that are hard to notice. Before you change a setting, make sure you understand what it does, back up the current configuration where your equipment allows it, and keep a way to restore access. Exposing self-hosted services, home lab tools, cameras, storage or administration pages to the internet can lead to unauthorized access, data theft, ransomware or abuse of your connection, so treat any guide involving remote access as a starting point for your own careful research rather than a complete security plan. Firmware updates, factory resets, third-party firmware and hardware modifications can fail, erase settings, make equipment unusable or void manufacturer warranties. Building servers, network-attached storage and home lab systems can result in data loss, so keep independent backups of anything you cannot afford to lose before you change storage, RAID or file-system settings. Replacing, modifying or reconfiguring equipment supplied by your internet provider, or running servers on a residential connection, may conflict with your provider’s terms, so check those terms before you act. Running Ethernet or other cabling through walls, ceilings, floors, attics, crawl spaces or outdoors can involve falls from ladders, heat exposure, sharp edges, insulation and dust, hidden electrical wiring, plumbing or gas lines, structural damage and fire-safety concerns. Use cable that is rated for the space where it is installed, including in-wall, riser or plenum spaces where local codes require it, and use outdoor-rated cable, grounding and surge protection where outdoor runs and local codes call for them. Power over Ethernet equipment, powerline adapters, uninterruptible power supplies, power strips and always-on servers draw electrical power and generate heat, so follow manufacturer instructions and ratings, avoid overloading circuits, outlets or power budgets, and provide adequate ventilation. Do not open power supplies or work on mains wiring, outlets or electrical panels yourself; hire a licensed electrician for that work. Follow manufacturer instructions, local building and electrical codes, and any rules set by your landlord, homeowners association or building management. Only make changes to networks, equipment and property that you own or are authorized to administer or modify. If a task feels unsafe or beyond your experience, stop and get qualified help. To the extent permitted by applicable law, you are responsible for the risks of the projects you choose to undertake, but this does not reduce any right or remedy that the law does not allow to be waived.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Home Network Grid and the other Site Parties will not be liable to you or anyone claiming through you for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages arising out of or relating to the site or these Terms. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, this includes damages for lost data, lost profits, lost savings, business interruption, internet or service outages, security incidents, unauthorized access to your network or devices, damage to or loss of equipment, property damage, voided warranties, provider fees or penalties, and the cost of replacement goods or services. These limitations apply to claims arising from your use of or inability to use the site, your reliance on any content, any action you take or decline to take based on the content, any configuration, installation or purchase decision, any third-party website, product, service or provider, and any error, omission, interruption or delay on the site. They apply whatever the legal theory, whether contract, warranty, tort including negligence, strict liability, statute or otherwise, and even if a Site Party was told about the possibility of the loss. These Terms do not set a fixed monetary cap on liability. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, which may include liability for fraud, willful misconduct, gross negligence, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or violations of law where such exclusions are not permitted. Some jurisdictions, including some US states, do not allow certain exclusions or limitations of liability, and in those places the limitations in this section apply only to the extent the law allows. This section is not a claim that the Site Parties can never be held responsible, and it does not prevent you from asserting any right or remedy that applicable law guarantees to you.
Indemnification
To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Home Network Grid and the other Site Parties from third-party claims, demands, losses, liabilities, damages, costs and expenses, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, that arise out of your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the site, your violation of any law or of anyone else’s rights, or your unauthorized access to or interference with any network, device, account or service. This obligation also covers claims arising from material you send to the site that you did not have the right to send. This obligation does not apply to the extent a claim results from a Site Party’s own conduct for which the law does not allow responsibility to be shifted to you, and it does not apply where applicable consumer protection law prohibits it. If a claim covered by this section arises, you agree to cooperate reasonably in its defense and not to settle it in a way that imposes obligations on a Site Party without that Site Party’s consent.
Third-Party Links, Products and Services
The site links to manufacturers, standards bodies, internet providers, software projects, retailers and other external websites as sources and for further reading. Article pages may also show share links for Facebook, X and Pinterest, which only open those services when you click them. External websites and services are operated by others under their own terms and privacy policies, and Home Network Grid does not control their content, accuracy, availability, security or practices. A link to another website is not an endorsement of that website, its operator, its products or its views, and it does not mean that the linked organization endorses or is affiliated with Home Network Grid. Products, services, firmware, software and internet plans discussed on the site are made, sold, supported and warranted by third parties, not by Home Network Grid. If you buy a product or sign up for a service, your agreement is with the seller, manufacturer or provider, and questions about pricing, availability, shipping, returns, warranties, support, recalls, contract terms and billing must be resolved with them. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Site Parties are not responsible for third-party websites, products, services or providers, or for any loss arising from your dealings with them. Review third-party terms, privacy practices and safety information before you rely on them.
Affiliate and Commercial Relationships
Home Network Grid does not currently participate in any affiliate program, does not display advertising, and has no sponsorships, paid placements, free products or other material relationships with companies it covers. Links on the site do not currently earn us a commission, and no company pays for coverage, placement, ratings or rankings. If that changes, the Disclosure page and the affected pages will be updated, with clear disclosures placed near the relevant recommendations or links. The Disclosure page explains our current approach, our research methodology and how commercial relationships would be handled.
Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the site. In summary, the site has no accounts, comments, newsletter or active contact form, does not use analytics, advertising or tracking pixels, and does not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Cloudflare processes technical request data, such as IP addresses, user agents and request metadata, to deliver and protect the site under its own policies. The site stores your light or dark theme choice in your browser’s local storage, where it stays on your device. Please read the full Privacy Policy for details, including information about your choices.
Restriction or Termination of Access
Because the site has no accounts, there is no membership to cancel. We may nevertheless restrict, suspend or block access to all or part of the site for anyone, at any time, if we reasonably believe it is necessary to protect the site, its readers, the Site Parties or others, to respond to a violation of these Terms, or to comply with law. Access restrictions may be applied automatically by security tools, including Cloudflare protections. Those tools can occasionally affect legitimate visitors, and trying again later or from a different network may help. We may also discontinue the site or any part of it at any time. Provisions of these Terms that by their nature should continue after your use ends, including those covering intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification and the general provisions below, continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.
Governing Law and Your Mandatory Rights
These Terms do not select a governing law, a particular court or a particular venue. Any question about these Terms or your use of the site will be governed by whatever law applies under applicable conflict-of-law rules. Nothing in these Terms deprives you of the protection of mandatory consumer protection or other laws of the place where you live that cannot be waived or changed by agreement. If you are a consumer, you may have rights under the laws of your state or country that these Terms cannot limit, and those rights continue to apply.
Resolving Disputes
These Terms do not require arbitration, do not include a class action waiver and do not set out a mandatory dispute procedure. If you have a concern about the site, you are welcome to raise it first at hello@homenetworkgrid.com, keeping in mind the current limits on that address described in the Contact section of these Terms. Raising a concern informally is optional. Nothing in these Terms prevents you from bringing a claim in a court that has jurisdiction, using small claims procedures where available, or contacting a government agency or consumer protection authority.
Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, illegal or unenforceable, that provision will be enforced to the maximum extent permissible and limited or modified only as much as necessary to make it enforceable. The remaining provisions of these Terms will continue in full force and effect. A finding that a provision is unenforceable against one person or in one jurisdiction does not affect its enforceability against others or elsewhere.
No Waiver
If we do not enforce a provision of these Terms, or delay enforcing it, that does not waive our right to enforce it later. A waiver of any provision is effective only if it is in writing and only for the specific instance it covers. A waiver of one breach is not a waiver of any other breach.
Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and Disclosure pages referenced in them, are the entire understanding between you and Home Network Grid about your use of the site. They replace earlier versions of these Terms for use of the site after this version takes effect. Agreements you have with manufacturers, retailers, internet providers or other third parties are separate and are not changed by these Terms. Nothing in this section limits any mandatory protection that applicable law gives you.
Assignment
You may not assign or transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without our written consent. To the extent permitted by law, we may assign or transfer these Terms, in whole or in part, without your consent, including in connection with a transfer of the site, its domain or its content to another operator. These Terms benefit and bind permitted successors and assigns.
Events Outside Our Control
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Home Network Grid and the other Site Parties are not responsible for any delay, interruption or failure to provide the site or any part of it that results from events outside our reasonable control. Such events can include outages or changes at hosting, network, publishing or domain providers, internet or power failures, cyberattacks, denial-of-service attacks, natural disasters, severe weather, fire, public health emergencies, labor disputes, government actions and changes in law.
Changes to These Terms
We may revise these Terms from time to time, for example when the site adds features, changes how it is hosted, enables a contact form or begins a commercial relationship. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page shows when the Terms were most recently revised. The site does not operate a mailing list, so updates are made by posting the revised Terms on this page rather than by sending individual notices. Unless a change is required sooner by law, revised Terms take effect when they are posted, and your continued use of the site after that time means you accept them. Changes will not apply retroactively to a dispute that arose before the revised Terms were posted. If applicable law requires a different form of notice or consent for a particular change, that requirement will apply to that change. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
Contact
The public contact address for Home Network Grid is hello@homenetworkgrid.com. Email receiving for that address has not yet been set up and verified, so we cannot currently confirm that messages sent to it will be received, read or answered, and we do not offer any response time. The contact form on the Contact page is turned off at launch, and that page currently shows the email address only. The Contact page and these policies will be updated before or when the form is enabled or email handling changes. Please do not rely on an email to this address for anything time-sensitive or safety-critical, such as a deadline, an urgent security problem on your own network or a request that must reach your internet provider.
